JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the position is to promote choice, dignity, and expedient service by assisting in the performance of duties and other tasks that enhance the quality of life for residents.
This position has responsibility for service to residents in a manner that promotes their safety and comfort and maintains good housekeeping standards within duty areas.

SUPERVISION:
1.
Receives direct supervision from Charge Nurse.
2.
Receives indirect supervision from Unit Manager, Shift Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Immediately reports to Charge Nurse and/or Unit Manager:
1.
Incidences of suspected or potential resident abuse;
2.
Resident incidents/accidents;
3.
Resident and/or visitor complaints to nurse manager/charge nurse.
Contribute to the orderly functioning of the unit:
1.
Makes rounds on the unit looking for items needing attention;
2.
Straighten utility rooms, linen rooms and pantry as needed;
3.
Deliver mail to residents; opening and reading mail to the resident as requested by the resident;
4.
Make unoccupied beds and tidy rooms;
5.
Pass clean linen;
6.
Remove and/or bag soiled linen from rooms.
7.
Prepares rooms for new admissions;
8.
Makes inventory of resident’s personal possessions and sends items to personal laundry to be labeled.
9.
Puts personal clothing away.
10.
Stocking/putting away personal care items in resident rooms.
Labeling personal items.
11.
Light cleaning of wheelchairs/geri-chairs when not in use.
12.
Removes trash from rooms and dispose of properly.
13.
Delivers meal trays and help set up residents to eat
14.
Pass fresh water to all residents who eat independently
15.
Distribute clothing protectors prior to meal.

Document meal tickets in Matrix
17.
Distribute Nourishments (only set up)
18.
Picks up meal trays after meal is finished and meal consumption is recorded by appropriate staff.
19.
Completes stop-n-watch.
Promote resident comfort and dignity:
1.
Answer call lights and perform non-nursing duties – reporting to nursing when resident needs hands-on assistance or care from a licensed nurse;
2.
Respects residents’ rights (e.
g.
, knocks on door before entering room, addresses resident by name, allows resident to make decisions).
3.
Check on residents in their rooms and perform a variety of related duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
a.
Make sure the call light is within the resident’s reach
b.
Position the telephone within the resident’s reach
c.
Position the telephone remote control and the bed light switch within resident’s reach;
d.
Position the bedside table next to the bed;
e.
Position over-the-bed table per resident’s request;
f.
Place a box of tissues and a glass of water within the resident’s reach;
g.
Place the trash can next to the resident’s bed out of the line of mobility;
h.
Prior to leaving the room ask if the resident needs anything else.
Promote special activity and community life:
1.
Transport residents to Activity programs, therapies, beauty shop, meals and other destinations;
2.
May accompany residents outdoors or on Activity Program outings;
3.
Facilitate spontaneous activities in the neighborhood during times that there are no planned activities or with residents who choose not to attend planned activities;
4.
Promote resident’s individual activity.
Provides 1:1 supervision of residents as assigned.
Responsible for written documentation as required.
Responsible for miscellaneous duties as assigned.
